Tinubu inherited dead economy, Nigeria almost buried — Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has voiced his support for All Progressives Congress chairmanship candidate Christopher Maikalangu ahead of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election scheduled for 21 February 2026. Maikalangu, the incumbent AMAC Chairman, is seeking re‑election. Wike praised Maikalangu’s instrumental role in executing projects across the capital, highlighting his dedication to the community’s needs, and urged residents to reward his efforts with a victory at the polls.

Wike made these remarks during the flag‑off ceremony for a new access road that will bypass the airport’s second runway. The project, which includes a four‑span bridge, is designed to connect the Tunga Madaki settlement to the airport and addresses a long‑standing community request. The minister noted Maikalangu’s advocacy for the community, especially during the compensation process for land acquired for the runway, and stressed the importance of remembering his contributions when voting.

The access‑road construction is slated for completion by June 2026, with the president expected to inaugurate the road. Wike reiterated his call for the community to support Maikalangu’s re‑election bid, emphasizing the need to reward dedicated leaders. The AMAC election on 21 February 2026 will be closely watched, as various candidates vie for council positions, and the outcome will have significant implications for the area’s development and the continuation of ongoing projects.
