Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan’s possible run in the 2027 presidential election has ignited comparisons with his predecessors and successors. In an interview with Arise Television, Bode George—former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—asserted that Jonathan’s record as president surpasses those of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari and the current President Bola Tinubu. George highlighted the stark differences between Jonathan’s tenure and the present era under All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership, urging Nigerians to evaluate the administrations through economic indicators such as interest rates, inflation, and the Naira’s value against the dollar.

George pointed out that the cost of living has risen dramatically since Jonathan’s time in office, with basic goods becoming significantly more expensive. He noted that Nigerians across all socio‑economic groups are feeling the impact of the current economic climate. According to George, if Jonathan were to run and win in 2027, his performance would speak for itself, offering a track record he believes exceeds the combined records of Buhari and Tinubu.

The PDP chieftain’s remarks come amid growing speculation about Jonathan’s candidacy as the 2027 election draws nearer. Voters will be weighing the achievements and shortcomings of previous administrations while considering the options presented by various candidates and parties. The upcoming election is expected to be highly contested, with the electorate seeking leaders capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges and improving overall quality of life. Consequently, the debate over Jonathan’s potential return and his presidential legacy is likely to remain a central theme in the election discourse.
