Rivers State ADC Vows Justice for Sacked Workers

The African Democracy Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has vowed to seek justice for workers in Emohua Local Government who were recently dismissed by council chairman Hon. Chidi Lloyd. The move follows a directive from the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Rivers State, which instructed its members to undertake a seven‑day warning strike over the sackings.

Reports indicate that Chairman Lloyd had previously dismissed the same workers during his first tenure, labeling them “ghost workers.” They were later reinstated by Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid a political crisis in the state. After returning to office following the recent local government election, Lloyd fired the workers again, prompting the strike. The strike was subsequently suspended after Governor Fubara intervened.

In a statement, ADC Chairman Chief Sampson Leader condemned the dismissals as “heartless,” criticizing them as evidence of the government’s disregard for the well‑being of Rivers State citizens. He described the actions as characteristic of an oppressive regime and pledged that the ADC would fight for justice and liberation. While acknowledging Governor Fubara’s swift intervention in halting the strike, Leader warned that any further abuse of power would be met with resistance.
