Kalu appeals to Tinubu for sea port in South East — Daily Nigerian

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Ben Kalu appealed to President Bola Tinubu to establish a sea port in the South‑East region to boost trade and economic activity. He made the request during a reception held in the president’s honor at Enyimba International Stadium in Abia, following the inauguration of several projects in the state. Kalu thanked the president for his support in implementing those projects, which were carried out in collaboration with the state governor.

Kalu emphasized the need for a sea port, noting the South‑East’s strong trading tradition and the potential economic benefits of such infrastructure. He pointed out that most South Easterners are traders who require a convenient, efficient means of importing and exporting goods.

In addition to the sea‑port request, Kalu raised concerns about the demolition of houses and offices belonging to Igbo people in Lagos. He urged the president to intervene to prevent further destruction and to facilitate the regularisation of documents for properties that remain intact. Kalu argued that demolition during a period of economic hardship only deepens the suffering of affected individuals and families.

The deputy speaker stressed the importance of cooperation between the federal and state governments, asserting that partnership is essential for effective governance. As a member of the All Progressives Congress, Kalu pledged to support Abia Governor Alex Otti in his development efforts, commending the governor for the projects already completed and encouraging continued work toward the state’s prosperity.

Kalu thanked President Tinubu for his assistance with Abia’s projects and urged the state’s information commissioner and media outlets to acknowledge the president’s contributions. By highlighting the president’s support, Kalu hopes to attract further investment to Abia and the broader South‑East, a region that has received significant attention from the president. The establishment of a sea port could have a substantial impact on the region’s economy, and Kalu’s request may signal the start of a new phase in its development.
