APC alleges electoral malpractice in Kano’s by-election

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the State House of Assembly for its handling of a recent incident in which at least ten residents of Akinlalu, a community in Ife North local government area, were allegedly killed by operatives of the Amotekun Corps. APC Director of Media and Information Kola Olabisi said the Assembly showed a lack of empathy in its response.

According to reports, on 30 September 2025, operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps invaded Akinlalu, opened fire on residents and caused several deaths and injuries. The incident led to the closure of Amotekun offices in Ile‑Ife and Osogbo and to the arrest of some corps officials by the police.

The APC criticized the Assembly for remaining silent for ten days after the killings, then condemning the police for sealing the Amotekun offices and arresting its personnel. Olabisi questioned the moral justification of lawmakers who prioritized reopening the offices over justice for the victims. He described the Assembly’s condemnation of the police as unnecessary, noting that the Nigeria Police Force was within its rights to investigate and make arrests.

The party alleged that the Assembly’s reaction gave the impression that lawmakers were more concerned about the inconvenience faced by the Amotekun Corps than about the loss of lives in the community. The APC also accused Osun Amotekun Corps Commandant Isaac Adekunle Omoyele of human‑rights abuses and called for reforms within the security outfit to restore public confidence.

In a statement, Olabisi urged the Assembly to act responsibly and ensure accountability for the killings. He called on the Speaker to press the Amotekun commandant to face investigation and help uncover the truth behind the Akinlalu carnage.

The Assembly Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, had earlier called for the immediate unsealing of the Amotekun offices, which police had locked while probing the outfit’s role in the killings. The APC’s criticism suggests that the Assembly’s priorities are misplaced and that the focus should be on securing justice for the victims and their families.

The incident has sparked a heated debate about the role of the Amotekun Corps in the state and the need for accountability and reforms within the security outfit. As the investigation continues, the APC’s critique highlights the need for a more nuanced and responsible approach to addressing the community’s concerns.
