Bala Mohammed Stays Loyal to PDP Amid Defections

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has reiterated his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that he has no intention of leaving the party for another political platform. The governor made this assertion in Abuja on Saturday, following the inaugural meeting of the publicity and communications sub-committee for the PDP’s forthcoming national convention.

As the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Mohammed expressed concern over the recent trend of defections by some of his colleagues to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He noted that while he cannot dictate the choices of his fellow governors, he is committed to remaining in the PDP. Mohammed acknowledged that discussions are ongoing behind the scenes to manage the situation, stating that the wave of defections could have been worse.

The governor attributed some of the defections to political motivations, advising those leaving the party to do so without damaging its reputation. Mohammed’s assurance comes amidst speculations about the stability of the PDP, which has experienced a series of high-profile defections in recent times.

The PDP is gearing up for its national convention, which is expected to take place soon. The party is working to strengthen its structures and reassure its members of its commitment to its ideals. Mohammed’s statement is seen as a move to reassure party faithful and quell rumors about his potential defection.

The wave of defections from the PDP to the APC has significant implications for the political landscape in Nigeria. The PDP, as the main opposition party, is working to reposition itself ahead of future elections. The party’s ability to retain its members and attract new ones will be crucial in determining its chances of success.

As the PDP navigates this challenging period, Governor Mohammed’s commitment to the party is seen as a positive development. His statement is expected to boost morale among party members and reassure them of his dedication to the PDP’s cause. With the national convention approaching, the party will be looking to build on this momentum and emerge stronger and more united.
