Insecurity: Heed Trump's counsel, sack service chiefs now – Timi Frank to Tinubu

A former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Timi Frank, has urged President Bola Tinubu to dismiss the country’s security chiefs in response to the ongoing killings of Nigerians. His call follows the recent murder of soldiers in Borno State by suspected Boko Haram insurgents and reflects growing alarm over a wave of insecurity, banditry and kidnappings that he describes as a national tragedy demanding immediate executive action.

Frank warned that Nigerians are being killed daily across the country, indicating a collapse of the security architecture under the current leadership. He blamed the lack of proper equipment and funding for security personnel for the deaths of many soldiers and policemen. The situation has attracted international attention, with former US President Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz speaking out against the killings. Frank praised their advocacy, saying it has helped bring the issue to the fore, and urged President Tinubu to heed the counsel of US leaders, citing the long‑standing relationship between Nigeria and the United States.

The former APC official also criticized the Nigerian Senate for condemning Senator Cruz’s comments on the killing of innocent Nigerians. He argued that the Senate should have focused on holding the executive accountable for protecting the lives and property of Nigerians rather than reacting to international criticism. Frank cited the detention of Nnamdi Kanu and the failure to ensure that security chiefs are acting to protect Nigerians as examples of the Senate’s inaction.

These developments highlight the urgent need for decisive action to address Nigeria’s security challenges. The country’s leadership must work to restore the effectiveness of the security architecture and safeguard the lives and property of its citizens. As the international community continues to monitor the situation, the Nigerian government must take concrete steps to tackle the root causes of insecurity and ensure the safety of its people.
