PDP Will Retain Plateau State in 2027 Election

A former Nigerian lawmaker, Simon Mwadkwon Fwet, has expressed confidence in the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) chances of winning the 2027 governorship election in Plateau State. Despite the recent defection of prominent PDP members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Fwet believes it will be challenging for the APC to defeat the PDP in the state.

Fwet, who previously served as Senate Minority Leader, made this declaration while speaking to journalists in Jos. He emphasized that the PDP remains strong in Plateau State, with deep roots and widespread acceptance among the people. The former lawmaker attributed this to the performance of the current administration under Governor Caleb Mutfwang, which he described as transformational.

According to Fwet, the Mutfwang administration has recorded significant progress in key sectors such as agriculture, health, infrastructure, and peace building. He cited improvements in Jos’s sanitation and road network, as well as the government’s agricultural reforms, which have boosted food production and job creation. The former lawmaker also praised the governor’s efforts in maintaining peace and tackling insecurity, noting that his inclusive approach has promoted harmony among Plateau citizens.

Fwet stated that the governor’s performance has endeared the PDP to the people, making it unlikely for the APC to win the 2027 governorship election. He emphasized that the electorates will not be swayed by partisan politics or the influence of the APC at the federal level, given the unique dynamics of politics in Plateau State.

The former lawmaker’s comments come as the PDP faces challenges from defections and the APC’s national influence. However, Fwet remains confident that the PDP will retain power in Plateau State and potentially reclaim the presidency in 2027. His statement reflects the ongoing political developments in Nigeria, where regional dynamics and party loyalty play significant roles in shaping election outcomes.
