Dangote Cement has launched operations in Attingué, Côte d’Ivoire, with a 50‑hectare production facility capable of producing 3 million tonnes of cement per year. This makes it one of the group’s largest plants outside Nigeria and marks Côte d’Ivoire as the 11th African country to host a Dangote Cement unit. The project, estimated at 100 billion CFA francs, is part of the Dangote Group’s broader strategy to support Ivorian infrastructure development and meet the rising demand for construction materials driven by rapid urbanisation and major building projects. With a total continental capacity of 55 million tonnes per year, the group aims to play a significant role in Africa’s construction industry.
The Attingué plant is expected to create more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing a substantial boost for young people in Côte d’Ivoire and supporting the ecosystem of local SMEs. Through the Dangote Academy, the company will establish training programmes for Ivorian engineers and technicians, strengthening local expertise in industrial management. Serge Gbotta, CEO of Dangote Cement Côte d’Ivoire, highlighted the ambition to offer internationally‑standard cement produced locally at competitive prices. The plant is presented not only as an industrial unit but also as a symbol of confidence in Côte d’Ivoire’s future and a commitment to sustainable development alongside local communities.
In addition to industrial activities, Dangote Cement plans to implement support mechanisms such as credit facilities and commercial assistance for small retailers, enhancing the value chain. Community initiatives will include opening access roads, providing drinking‑water projects, and supporting local health facilities. With premium cement available in several grades, the company aims to become a trusted partner for the Ivorian construction sector. Designed with cutting‑edge technology, the Attingué plant should enable Côte d’Ivoire to significantly reduce cement imports and eventually serve as a regional hub for production and export. The launch reinforces Dangote Cement’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive development across Africa.
