Nigerian philanthropist and entrepreneur Tony Elumelu stressed that Africa’s future depends on investment, partnership, and entrepreneurship rather than on aid. Speaking at an Africa‑Europe summit dedicated to economic cooperation and sustainable development, he argued that the continent needs partners, not charity, to drive its transformation.

The summit gathered policymakers, investors, and business leaders from across Africa and Europe to explore ways to deepen trade relations, promote sustainable growth, and attract long‑term investments. As a leading advocate for entrepreneurship in Africa, Elumelu reiterated that Africans must lead their own development, with global partners playing supportive and collaborative roles.

Elumelu called for a shift away from charity‑driven models toward a framework centered on investment, entrepreneurship, and equal partnership. He highlighted Africa’s youthful population, abundant natural resources, and expanding innovation ecosystem as immense opportunities for investors seeking sustainable, mutually beneficial growth. Empowering small and medium‑sized enterprises and young innovators, he said, is essential to unlocking the continent’s economic potential and achieving inclusive development.

The Africa‑Europe summit aimed to redefine Africa’s relationship with the world on the basis of dignity, respect, and shared prosperity. Elumelu’s message resonated with this goal, underscoring the importance of a collaborative, inclusive approach to drive the continent’s development. As Africa continues to evolve, prioritizing investment, partnership, and entrepreneurship will be crucial for creating opportunities for its youthful population, fostering economic growth, and attaining inclusive, sustainable development.
