US shouldn’t ‘deplete’ Tomahawk arsenal for Ukraine – Trump — RT World News

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the United States must keep a sufficient stockpile of Tomahawk long‑range cruise missiles before it can consider delivering them to Ukraine. The missiles, which can travel up to 2,500 kilometers, are the latest offensive weapons requested by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump previously indicated openness to approving the request, citing the lack of progress in peace talks with Russia, but he has not yet given a definitive answer.

During a recent phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump noted that Putin “didn’t like the idea” of Ukraine acquiring Tomahawks. Putin’s aide, Yury Ushakov, warned that any shipment would undermine the chances of peace between Russia and Ukraine and severely damage Russia’s ties with the United States. Trump stressed that the U.S. must preserve its own arsenal, stating, “we can’t deplete our own arsenal” of Tomahawks.

Zelensky is expected to ask for additional military aid from Trump at an upcoming White House meeting. Trump has previously arranged for NATO to fund American weapons designated for Ukraine. Russia, however, has warned that foreign aid will not stop its troops in Ukraine and could increase the risk of a wider conflict.

The possible delivery of Tomahawks represents a significant development in the ongoing Russia‑Ukraine war. While U.S. military aid has already bolstered Ukraine’s defenses, adding long‑range cruise missiles would further enhance its capabilities. Russia is likely to oppose the move, citing concerns about escalation. The situation in Ukraine remains volatile, with continued fighting between Ukrainian forces and Russian‑backed separatists, and the international community continues to call for a peaceful resolution, though a lasting solution has yet to be achieved. The forthcoming meeting between Trump and Zelensky is expected to focus on the conflict and the prospect of increased U.S. military assistance.
