The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting sunshine and haziness across the country from Sunday to Tuesday. On Sunday, sunny skies with a hazy atmosphere are expected over parts of Katsina, Yobe, Kano, and Jigawa states in the northern region. The rest of the north will be sunny in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms developing later over southern Taraba. In the central region, NiMet forecasts sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains over parts of Benue and Kogi in the afternoon or evening. The southern region will experience a cloudy atmosphere with morning thunderstorms and light rains across several states, including Ebonyi, Ogun, Ondo, Imo, Abia, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over most of the south.
On Monday, the agency anticipates sunny skies over the northern region in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms later over parts of southern Kaduna and southern Taraba. The central region will see sunny skies with cloud patches in the morning, then isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains over southern Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, and Nasarawa. The southern region is expected to remain cloudy, with morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
Tuesday’s outlook calls for sunny skies over the northern region and sunny skies with cloud patches over the central region. The southern region will stay cloudy, with morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
NiMet advises the public to exercise caution while driving in rain, to refrain from applying fertilizers and pesticides before rains to avoid nutrient leaching, and to obtain airport‑specific weather reports for effective aviation planning. Residents are urged to stay informed through agency updates and to take precautions such as fastening loose objects, disconnecting electrical appliances, and avoiding tall trees to minimize accident risks. By providing timely and accurate forecasts, NiMet aims to promote public safety and support sectors such as agriculture and aviation.
