U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that Ukraine is likely to lose some territory to Russia as the conflict continues. In an interview with Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo, he suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin would “take something” from Ukraine, pointing to the gains Russia has made on the battlefield. This remark comes as Kyiv repeatedly rejects any territorial concessions, while Moscow insists that Ukrainian forces withdraw from the newly occupied Russian regions as a prerequisite for a lasting peace.
Trump also raised the possibility of supplying Ukraine with U.S.-made long‑range Tomahawk cruise missiles, a topic reportedly discussed during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, he stopped short of committing to provide the missiles, noting that the United States must balance its support for Ukraine with the potential risks and consequences of such a move. He emphasized that the U.S. has already delivered substantial military aid and cannot simply hand over its entire arsenal.
Before meeting Zelensky, Trump spoke by phone with Putin, who warned that providing Ukraine with long‑range missiles would not change the course of the war but would damage Moscow‑Washington relations and undermine prospects for a peaceful settlement. Trump has maintained that, while he supports Ukraine, he cannot compromise U.S. interests or jeopardize its security by offering unlimited military assistance.
The Ukraine‑Russia conflict persists, with both sides pursuing their goals through military and diplomatic means. The international community continues to work toward a peaceful resolution, but a durable settlement remains elusive. As the situation evolves, the United States and other key players will face difficult decisions about how to balance support for Ukraine with the need to avoid escalating the conflict and undermining the chances for a negotiated peace.
