Niger State is set to hold Local Government Councils elections on 1 November 2025. At an APC Niger South Senatorial District Zone A interactive session in Bida, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress will win. He urged political parties and their candidates to conduct peaceful campaigns, free from violence, and cited President Tinubu’s teaching that no political position is worth more than a human life. Idris emphasized brotherhood and democracy, advising citizens to avoid actions that could trigger a crisis during the election.
The minister assured Nigerians that President Tinubu is committed to protecting their safety and property, and that security agencies are working to restore peace in Niger State and across the country. Regarding the economy, Idris said he has faith in President Tinubu’s reforms, noting that they are producing positive results and that the economy is improving. He called on Nigerians to trust and believe in the president’s vision.
Idris’ statements come as the nation prepares for the upcoming local government elections, which are seen as a crucial test for the APC. Security concerns in Niger State have been prominent recently, so the minister’s reassurance that agencies are restoring peace will be welcomed by residents. The elections are expected to be closely contested, with multiple parties and candidates vying for positions.
During the interactive session, the APC’s campaign council was inaugurated, tasking its members with mobilising support for the party’s candidates. With the elections only weeks away, parties and contestants are gearing up for an intense campaign period. The outcome will be closely monitored both locally and internationally, given Niger State’s significant role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
