Kebbi PDP demands release of party spokesperson, alleges biased court ruling

The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has downplayed the recent defection of some members, describing it as a temporary setback. Outgoing chairman Chris Hassan asserted that the party will emerge stronger, more united, and more determined. He made these remarks during a valedictory briefing at the party’s State Secretariat in Jos, ahead of the upcoming State Congress, and urged members to stay committed to promoting the PDP until it regains its rightful position.

Hassan expressed appreciation for Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s support, praising his leadership for setting a new standard in governance, infrastructure development, peace, and accountability. Reflecting on his tenure, Hassan said he has no regrets about working to restore the PDP as the ruling party in the state after an eight‑year hiatus under the All Progressives Congress (APC). He highlighted the party’s successes in the 2023 general elections—winning the governorship, two senatorial seats, five House of Representatives seats, and 16 seats in the State House of Assembly. Nevertheless, he voiced disappointment that, despite these electoral victories, the courts denied national and state assembly members the opportunity to represent their constituents.

The outgoing chairman commended Governor Mutfwang’s leadership as a model for governance, peacebuilding, and infrastructure development, assuring that the PDP will continue to support the governor’s efforts to move Plateau State forward. He also acknowledged the media’s role in supporting the party, thanking journalists for their consistent coverage and professional commitment.

The PDP’s State Congress is expected to mark a new chapter in the party’s journey, building on recent successes while addressing current challenges. With a renewed commitment to its ideals and the governor’s leadership, the PDP is poised to remain a significant force in Plateau State politics.
