Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace have launched a manhunt for Alhaji Muhammed Sule, a notorious bandit leader operating in Plateau State. Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, said the search follows a recent raid on Sule’s residence in Rawaya village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where troops recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition. The seized items include two AK‑47 rifles, one G3 rifle, a revolver pistol, six magazines and 1,202 rounds of live ammunition. Intelligence reports link Sule to several attacks in the area that have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians and the rustling of thousands of cows. The military spokesman described Sule as a dangerous terror kingpin connected to a deadly Islamist terrorist group. Although troops raided his residence on 19 October 2025, Sule was not found; the recovered weapons are now in military custody and the manhunt remains ongoing.
In parallel, troops of the Joint Task Force North‑East Operation Hadin Kai have apprehended several terrorists, collaborators, informants, sympathizers and spies across various communities in Plateau State. During the week under review, forces conducted offensive operations and responded to distress calls about terrorist activity in multiple local government areas, including Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Jos North, Riyom, Jos East and Mangu. Similar actions were carried out in Zangon Kataf, Jama’a, Kaura and Tafawa Balewa LGAs of Kaduna and Bauchi States. These operations resulted in the killing of some extremists, the capture of 24 others and the rescue of three kidnapping victims. Troops also recovered weapons, ammunition, motorcycles and vehicles from the terrorists.
The ongoing operations aim to curb terrorist activities and ensure peace in the affected regions. The manhunt for Alhaji Muhammed Sule and the apprehension of other terrorists demonstrate the military’s commitment to addressing security concerns in Nigeria.
