Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and prominent contender for the National Chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has formally submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to vie for the position. The party’s Elective National Convention is slated for 15‑16 November 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State. Turaki, who has secured the backing of a majority of the party’s stakeholders as a consensus candidate, lodged his forms at the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) Secretariat in Abuja, accompanied by friends and political associates.
This development comes as the PDP prepares for its national convention, where key leadership positions will be contested. The party has been engaged in internal deliberations to ensure a smooth convention, and Turaki’s submission marks a significant step in the contest for the national chairmanship. Meanwhile, another contender, Alhaji Sule Lamido—a former Governor of Jigawa State and former Minister of Foreign Affairs—has also expressed interest in the position, although earlier reports indicated he faced challenges in obtaining his nomination forms.
The upcoming national convention is expected to shape the PDP’s leadership and direction. As the party gears up for the event, the submission of nomination forms by contenders like Turaki signals a crucial phase in the selection process. Stakeholders and members will be watching closely as the convention approaches, aware that the outcome will have significant implications for the party’s future. The focus will be on the candidates’ qualifications, vision, and ability to lead the party forward, with the results likely to attract attention both within Nigeria and internationally as the PDP seeks to establish its leadership and prepare for future elections.
