The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing the country’s downstream sector through infrastructure development and collaboration. Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Bayo Ojulari said the company is committed to deploying additional infrastructure across the oil and gas value chain while revamping existing downstream assets nationwide.

Speaking at the 2025 OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week in Lagos, Ojulari emphasized that collaboration, sustainability and resilience are essential for driving efficiency in the sector. He noted that competition alone is no longer sufficient and that operators must adapt to new benchmarks for success. The conference’s theme, “Energy Sustainability: Beyond Boundaries & Competition,” underscores the need for a shift in approach.

Ojulari disclosed that the company will make its assets accessible to partners seeking to store and transport products, thereby supporting strategic alliances and collaboration in the downstream sector. He attributed recent growth to a combination of strategic policies, fiscal incentives and transparent regulatory frameworks such as the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). This expansion requires new skill sets and investments in areas like liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), compressed natural gas (CNG) and mini‑LNG projects.

The OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week is a premier event for international organizations, policymakers, regulators and operators in the downstream energy value chain. Ojulari urged participants to discuss challenges and opportunities, redefine energy systems and explore innovative business models and technologies that support decarbonisation while delivering economic value.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd’s commitment to downstream infrastructure development is significant, aiming to enhance collaboration and drive efficiency in the sector. These efforts are expected to contribute to the sector’s growth and expansion, creating new opportunities for investment and development. As the energy landscape continues to evolve, the importance of sustainability, collaboration and innovation will only increase.
