Grokipedia’s content is generated by artificial intelligence, specifically the generative AI assistant Grok. In contrast, Wikipedia is a collaborative encyclopedia run by volunteers, funded by donations, and editable by anyone on the internet.
A spokeswoman for the Wikimedia Foundation, which oversees Wikipedia, highlighted the platform’s strengths: transparent policies, rigorous volunteer oversight, and a culture of continuous improvement. When asked about Grokipedia, she said Wikimedia is still learning how the new platform works and stressed that human‑created knowledge remains essential, even for AI‑generated content.
The launch has been welcomed by some right‑wing figures who view Grokipedia as a more neutral alternative to Wikipedia.
