The Osun State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has been on an indefinite strike for more than 41 days, beginning on 19 September 2025. The walkout stems from grievances over delayed staff promotions for 2024 and 2025 and long‑standing welfare issues.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, alleging that the prolonged strike signals a collapse of the state judiciary. The party argues that the suspension of judicial activities for over a month violates citizens’ rights, leaves the judiciary paralysed, hampers access to justice, and imposes hardship on legal practitioners and individuals with pending cases.
In response, JUSUN denounced the APC’s remarks as political opportunism and hypocrisy. Union chairman Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran insisted the strike is not politically motivated but a legitimate demand for justice, fair treatment, and better welfare for judicial staff. He accused the APC of exaggerating the situation and urged the party to engage directly with judiciary authorities rather than politicising workers’ grievances.
The strike has serious implications for Osun’s justice system. Suspects remain in police cells and correctional facilities without trial because court operations have shut down completely. The union has reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful dialogue and called on the public to support its fight for fairness and improved working conditions within the state judiciary.
The APC has further accused the Osun State government of indifference to the constitutional and security ramifications of the strike, claiming that lawlessness and disorder have taken root as a result. The impasse remains unresolved, with JUSUN demanding that the government address its grievances and enhance the welfare of judicial staff. The episode underscores the urgent need for a resolution that restores access to justice for the state’s citizens.
