The Lagos State Government has approved a new Governing Council for the Lagos State University (LASU), aiming to enhance the institution’s administration and academic excellence. According to a circular issued on Friday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has given his assent to the appointment of an 11-member council that will oversee the strategic direction and governance of the state-owned university.
The circular, signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, notified all accounting officers to take note of the development and ensure adequate publicity across relevant institutions and departments. This move is in line with the Sanwo-Olu administration’s efforts to improve the quality of education across state-owned tertiary institutions.
The newly approved LASU Governing Council will be chaired by Mr. Babatunde Ogala, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and distinguished legal practitioner. Ogala, who has extensive experience in legal and corporate governance, previously served as General Legal Adviser for Guardian Press Limited and as an Associate Counsel at the Femi Okunnu Chambers. He also served as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly between 2007 and 2011.
Other members of the council include Oluseyi Badmus, Bode Makanjuola, Mojisola Tolagbe Taiwo, Shaffudeen Amuwo, Rafiu Adisa Ebiti, Kofo Durosimi-Etti, Farouk Gumel, Adenike Akanbi, Biodun Hundeyin, and Remi Desalu. The council’s appointment is expected to strengthen the university’s administration and enhance its academic programs.
The Lagos State University, established in 1983, is one of the leading state-owned universities in Nigeria. With a strong focus on academic excellence and research, the university offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The new Governing Council is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the university’s future and enhancing its reputation as a center of academic excellence.
The appointment of the new Governing Council is a significant development for the university and the state’s education sector. It is expected to lead to improvements in the university’s administration, academic programs, and research output. As the university continues to evolve and grow, the new council will be responsible for guiding its strategic direction and ensuring its continued success.
