The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has warned of an alleged plot to attack its National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, during a Sunday event. The party says the planned assault targets the Gindiri Old Students’ Reunion Service in Gindiri town, Mangu Local Government Area.
In a statement, the state’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Shittu Bamaiyi, asserted that the APC uncovered a scheme by certain individuals to mobilise thugs for the attack. According to the party, the conspirators are meeting at a private residence in Jos to finalise their plans. They have allegedly arranged three buses in each of the 20 electoral wards of Mangu to transport the thugs to the Gindiri Missionary Compound, where they intend to embarrass the National Chairman and his team. Unconfirmed reports also suggest that some thugs will be stationed at the Gindiri Roundabout.
The APC further alleges that journalists from within and outside Plateau State are being mobilised to create the impression that the people of Plateau despise the National Chairman, an effort aimed at discrediting him and casting the party in a negative light.
In response, the party has called on security agencies to investigate the matter and prevent any breakdown of law and order. It has appealed to its supporters to remain peaceful and law‑abiding despite the alleged provocation, and it is urging all stakeholders to ensure that the event proceeds without incident.
The alleged plot has raised concerns about the safety of political leaders and the potential for violence in the region. The APC emphasises the need for proactive security measures to protect all individuals and to maintain peace and stability, especially during public events. The party reaffirms its commitment to peaceful conduct and urges all parties to cooperate in preventing any unrest.
