Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose warned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is confronting serious challenges and struggling to regain its former stature. Speaking at a press conference in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, he said the party’s prospects of returning to power look bleak in light of recent developments. Fayose stressed the need for a unifying leader who can bring the party together, noting that the departure of key members has become a major obstacle. “The party needs a leader who can reunite everybody at this time,” he declared.
Fayose also criticized the current National Working Committee (NWC) led by Damagum, labeling them “undertakers” who have come to “bury the party.” He questioned the NWC’s decision to suspend and counter‑suspend members despite their short tenure, arguing that the PDP has “reasonably gone into extinction” and is far removed from its former self.
The PDP has been plagued by internal conflicts and challenges, raising doubts about its ability to serve as a strong opposition to the ruling party. Fayose’s comments underscore the urgency for the PDP to address its internal issues and work toward unity in order to regain relevance in Nigerian politics. As the party navigates these difficulties, its response to Fayose’s criticisms and its capacity to regroup and present a united front will be crucial in determining its future prospects. Immediate action to resolve internal conflicts and establish more cohesive leadership is essential for the PDP’s revival.
