The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned the public, especially admission seekers, about the practice of institutional programme changes. JAMB says this unethical tactic is intended to manipulate the merit‑based admission process, allowing institutions to favour certain candidates.
In a statement, JAMB spokesman Fabian Benjamin emphasized that admissions in Nigeria are conducted exclusively through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). This platform guarantees accountability, transparency and equal opportunity in placement decisions. Any programme change or admission activity carried out outside CAPS is unauthorized and harms the affected candidates.
JAMB cautioned that if a candidate is persuaded by an institution to change programmes through the institution’s portal, and the change is later recorded on CAPS, it will be considered a voluntary decision by the candidate. The Board views such practices as deceptive and unfair, and will not condone them.
Preliminary investigations have identified some universities involved in this practice, including one in the South‑West and another in Abuja. JAMB has begun regulatory steps to address these unethical acts and protect candidates’ interests.
Candidates are advised to ignore any invitations or requests to change programmes made through institutional portals or unofficial channels. The Board reaffirms its commitment to fairness, equity and transparency in the 2025 admission exercise and beyond. Applicants should conduct all admission‑related activities strictly through the JAMB CAPS portal to ensure their applications are processed transparently and on merit.
The warning underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in the admission process. As JAMB works to protect candidates’ interests, admission seekers must remain vigilant and use only the official channels for all admission activities, thereby supporting a fair and equitable system for everyone.
