The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called for the deployment of military personnel to ensure security during the governorship and state House of Assembly elections scheduled for March 11. At a news conference in Calabar on Friday, IPAC Chairman Anthony Bissong, representing other council members, emphasized the necessity of this request. He cited the relative peace observed during the presidential and National Assembly elections in the northern part of the state as a key reason for the military’s involvement.
Bissong specifically urged that military forces be stationed in the central and southern senatorial districts to facilitate a free and fair electoral process. He also took the opportunity to congratulate the winners of the National Assembly elections and expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies. However, he urged INEC to enhance its performance in the upcoming elections.
Additionally, Bissong raised concerns regarding the election process for some All Progressives Congress candidates in the Central Senatorial District, describing it as flawed. He announced that the political parties involved would pursue legal action to challenge the outcomes of these elections.
