In a surprising turn of events, Labour Party governorship candidate George Moghalu suffered a defeat in his own polling unit during the Anambra state election. Incumbent governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured more votes than Moghalu in that unit, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) also gained an upper hand at the polling station of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate.
At Obi’s polling unit, APC candidate Nicholas Ukachukwu garnered 73 votes, outpacing Moghalu, who received 57 votes for the Labour Party. APGA came in third with 38 votes. In Moghalu’s own polling unit, the results showed a significant margin of victory for APGA: the party obtained 57 votes, the Labour Party managed only 22, and the APC trailed with 5 votes.
The Anambra state election has been closely watched because of the region’s political landscape, and the outcome is expected to have significant implications for the state’s governance and political balance. As votes continue to be counted, the people of Anambra await the final results that will determine the direction of their state’s leadership. The election has also drawn attention to the performance of the Labour Party, APGA, and the APC, with the results so far indicating a strong showing by APGA under incumbent governor Charles Soludo.
