African Democratic Congress Inaugurates Transition Committee in Kaduna

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna has set up a transition committee to strengthen its structures across the state’s 23 local government areas and 255 wards. Chaired by Philimon Kure of Zone 3, the committee includes members from various zones and political backgrounds, such as Muktar Isa Hazo, Muhammed Dauda Haskiya, Kabiru Ajuji, Ibrahim Adamu Sarki, Nazifi Jibrin Muhammad, and Haruna Dogo Mabo. Zulaihat Abdul Kareem will serve as Deputy Chairman, and Ibrahim Musa has been appointed secretary.

The committee’s primary objective is to fill vacant executive positions and ensure the party’s presence is felt in every region. It has been given 14 days to submit a report to the state secretariat and will be held accountable for its actions. According to state chairman Elder Patrick Ambut, the committee must conduct leadership audits in all local government areas and wards and align its work with the 2022 INEC‑supervised Congress of the party. Ambut stressed the need for dedication, justice and fairness, citing Article 3.4 of the ADC Transitional Operation Guidelines, which empowers the committee to foster a sense of belonging among members and keep the party open to all.

The guidelines also require the committee to maintain a 40:60 ratio between ADC members and coalition partners when appointing individuals to vacant positions. In his acceptance speech, chairman Philimon Kure acknowledged these explicit mandates and emphasized the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to build a stronger party that reflects the interests of everyone.

The establishment of the transition committee marks a significant step toward strengthening the ADC’s presence in Kaduna state. As the committee begins its work, it is expected to prioritize fairness, transparency and inclusivity in decision‑making. Its success will be crucial for the party’s future prospects and will be closely watched by members and observers as the ADC seeks to consolidate its position in the state’s political landscape.
