50 APC supporters defect to NNPP in Kano — Daily Nigerian

In a significant political development, Kano State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Adamu Kibiya welcomed more than 50 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Kibiya ward in Kibiya Local Government Area to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). The defection marks a notable shift in the state’s political landscape.

According to a statement from Balarabe Kiru, Director of Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the commissioner attributed the move to Governor Abba Yusuf’s commitment to good governance and development projects. Yusuf’s administration has implemented initiatives across health, education, infrastructure, empowerment and agriculture, benefiting Kano residents.

Yakubu Alhaji, leader of the defected APC supporters, said their decision to join the NNPP was driven by the party’s focus on development and good governance under Governor Yusuf. He criticized the APC, alleging that it had delivered no development projects in the area over the past eight years and that its policies were self‑serving rather than people‑oriented.

Councilor of Kibiya Ward Auwalu Sarki revealed that additional groups are expected to join the NNPP, praising the commissioner’s efforts in promoting the party and the governor’s policies in the local government area. Sarki credited the commissioner’s work as instrumental in attracting supporters to the NNPP.

The defection of these APC members to the NNPP highlights growing support for Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration and its development initiatives. As Kano’s political landscape continues to evolve, observers will watch how this shift affects the balance of power in the region. The NNPP’s rising popularity appears closely tied to the governor’s commitment to good governance and development projects, resonating with the people of Kano.
