'To die in Christ is gain for me' - Rev Dachomo reacts to assassination warning

The Berom Young Warriors have warned the United Plateau Muslims that they will hold them responsible if any harm comes to Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, a clergyman who has spoken out about alleged Christian genocide in Plateau State. This warning follows accusations from the United Plateau Muslims that Reverend Dachomo is inciting anti‑Muslim and anti‑Fulani sentiment in the state. In a statement, the Muslim group claimed that the reverend is promoting a narrative that demonizes Muslims, allegedly to attract international donor grants and to stoke Christian hostility toward Muslims. They further alleged that Dachomo attributes every act of violence in Plateau to Muslims and Fulani militias while downplaying attacks carried out by Christian militias.

In response, the Berom Young Warriors accused the United Plateau Muslims of spreading falsehoods to justify potential attacks on unsuspecting communities. They argued that the Muslim group is following a script devised by its sponsors to target Reverend Dachomo. The Warriors asserted that 95 % of attacks in the state—especially in Berom communities—are carried out by Fulani militias, and that blaming Dachomo for inflaming tensions ignores the silence of those responsible.

The Berom Young Warriors warned they will not remain passive while their lands are plundered, their people killed and their women raped. They declared they have the means and willpower to match their opponents “fire for fire” and cautioned that any harm to Reverend Dachomo will provoke action. Emphasizing their lineage of proud warriors, they said they will not be intimidated.

The exchange underscores the ongoing ethnic and religious tensions in Plateau State, where clashes have caused significant loss of life and property. The Berom Young Warriors’ warning has raised concerns about a possible escalation of violence. As the situation develops, it remains uncertain how the parties will respond and whether efforts will be made to address the underlying issues driving the conflict.
