The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, expressed disappointment with the Zamfara State Government and urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rally behind a change in leadership. Speaking at the party secretariat in Gusau during a visit to the state, Matawalle addressed APC leaders and supporters, criticizing Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration for failing to fulfil its campaign promise of tackling banditry within the first 100 days in office. He claimed that the security situation has worsened, contrary to the government’s assurances, and noted that some members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are defecting to the APC out of dissatisfaction with the current administration.
Matawalle called on voters to evaluate the government’s performance over the past two years and consider whether it has made any significant impact, pointing out that many ongoing projects were initiated by previous administrations. The event, attended by APC supporters from across the state, featured calls for the PDP‑led government to relinquish power and allow the APC to take over.
His remarks come as Zamfara continues to grapple with security challenges, including banditry and kidnapping. The APC is seeking to regain control of the state government, which it lost to the PDP in the last election. The comments reflect the ongoing political tensions in Zamfara, where both parties have engaged in a war of words, each accusing the other of failing to deliver on promises. The security situation remains a major concern for residents, who are demanding effective action. As the political landscape evolves, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to the criticism and whether the APC will succeed in its bid to regain power.
