The Nigerian government has intensified its efforts to combat insecurity in Zamfara State by deploying additional troops to root out bandits and other criminal elements. This development was announced by Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle while addressing a gathering of All Progressive Congress (APC) supporters in Gusau. Matawalle said he would meet with the troops to issue a directive to decisively deal with terrorists and criminals in the state, emphasizing that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to tackling the nation’s insecurity.
The minister asserted that the government is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of citizens and that no one should wait for orders from above to act. Instead, the government is directing troops to end all forms of criminality across the nation. Matawalle praised the APC supporters for endorsing President Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 general elections, describing the president as a visionary leader with people‑oriented policies. He cited the construction of the Zaria‑Sokoto dual carriageway as an example of the administration’s commitment to development and urged APC members to continue mobilizing support for Tinubu ahead of the elections.
The deployment of additional troops to Zamfara is part of a broader strategy to address the region’s persistent banditry and other criminal activities, which have caused loss of life and displaced communities. By increasing the military presence, the government aims to restore peace and stability and protect citizens. The move also signals a commitment to tackling the root causes of insecurity—poverty, unemployment, and social inequality—hoping to reduce the appeal of criminality and foster economic growth.
As the country prepares for the 2027 general elections, the effectiveness of the government’s response to insecurity will be closely watched by both citizens and the international community.
