Supreme Court judgement: Confusion as Anyanwu Returns as PDP National Secretary

Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the expelled National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserted that the party is not dead. He made the statement during an interview on “Politics Today,” a program on Channels Television, expressing optimism that the PDP will overcome its current crisis and regain its status as a preferred political force. Anyanwu’s comments come amid ongoing turmoil within the party, which has sparked speculation about its future.

The former Imo State governorship candidate drew an analogy between the PDP’s situation and a patient in an intensive care unit who can still recover. He emphasized that, even in challenging circumstances, the party can bounce back. Anyanwu also addressed criticism of his relationship with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Although he was not part of the G5 group—comprising Wike, Makinde, Ugwuanyi, Ikpeazu, and Ortom—he described Wike as a close friend and credited him with revitalizing the PDP when it was facing difficulties.

Internal conflicts and power struggles have plagued the PDP, raising concerns about its viability as a political force. Nonetheless, Anyanwu’s statements suggest that, despite these challenges, the party still has a chance to navigate its stormy waters and regain its footing. As the PDP continues to grapple with its internal issues, his remarks may offer a glimmer of hope for supporters and members. The outcome of the party’s efforts to resolve these problems will be crucial in determining its future prospects and its ability to remain a significant player in the country’s political landscape.
