BREAKING: Wike, Govs Makinde, Bala Mohammed clash at PDP Secretariat

Tensions escalated at the Peoples Democratic Party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday as rival factions clashed over control of the complex. The dispute pits Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State against Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the party. Security personnel aligned with both sides engaged in a standoff, and reports indicated that teargas was deployed around the premises.

Governor Makinde arrived at the venue accompanied by Taofeek Arapaja, the newly elected National Secretary. In contrast, Nyesom Wike was joined by Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled National Secretary who maintains that his tenure remains valid until 8 December 2025. Party leaders have accused the police of failing to remain neutral in the dispute, raising concerns about the handling of the confrontation.

The leadership crisis has been persistent, with both factions vying for control and causing a split in the PDP’s hierarchy. The volatile situation at the headquarters has left party members and security personnel awaiting further developments, highlighting deep‑seated divisions that have intensified in recent weeks. Party leaders have called for calm, urging members to respect the rule of law and the party constitution.

The dispute over the PDP’s leadership carries significant implications for the party’s future and its ability to effectively oppose the ruling party. While the national chairman and other senior figures are working to resolve the crisis, no settlement has been reached. As events continue to unfold, members and supporters are watching closely, aware that the outcome will have far‑reaching consequences for both the PDP and the broader political landscape of the country.
