The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned a call by Tanimu Turaki, the new factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for foreign powers to intervene in Nigeria’s internal affairs. Turaki made the appeal in response to the country’s security challenges, which he described as tantamount to “Christian genocide.”
Felix Morka, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, labeled Turaki’s statement “reckless and unpatriotic” and urged the international community to disregard it. He argued that the call threatened Nigeria’s national security and sovereignty and was a desperate attempt to distract from the PDP’s internal crisis. The APC spokesman added that Turaki’s faction of the PDP is deeply fractured, and that the appeal for foreign intervention reflects the party’s inability to manage its internal contradictions. Morka recalled that during the PDP’s 16 years in power, the party never called for foreign intervention to resolve its own crises.
The APC’s condemnation comes amid ongoing tensions within the PDP, which has been plagued by internal power struggles and factionalism. This leadership crisis has raised concerns about the party’s ability to provide a viable opposition to the ruling APC. The international community has been urged to be cautious of the PDP’s call for foreign intervention, which could be seen as an attempt to undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty.
The APC has assured Nigerians that it remains committed to addressing the country’s security challenges and promoting national unity. In response to Turaki’s statement, the party called on Nigerians to stand firm in support of the government’s efforts to build progress and prosperity across all areas of national life. It also urged the international community to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty and refrain from interfering in its internal affairs.
The development has significant implications for Nigeria’s political landscape, highlighting the deepening divisions within the PDP and the ruling APC’s efforts to consolidate its power. As the country navigates its security challenges, it remains to be seen how the international community will respond to the PDP’s call for foreign intervention.
