Over 8,000 civil servants in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) are set to take promotion examinations this week. The exams will run from Tuesday to Saturday at the National Open University Study Centre in Abuja. According to Emeka Ezeh, Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, the tests will cover 165 cadres and will be administered using a Computer‑Based Test (CBT) format.
The CBT platform was introduced to enhance the promotion exercise, a move approved by the FCT Minister as part of staff‑motivation efforts. Earlier, the minister approved the promotion of 49 directors who successfully passed the CBT examination in August. This underscores the FCT’s commitment to leveraging digital technologies to streamline its processes.
The FCT Civil Service Commission’s decision to adopt CBT for promotion examinations is a significant development, as it is the first commission in Nigeria to do so. The approach is expected to increase the efficiency and transparency of the promotion process. With the exams taking place over five days, the commission aims to conclude the 2024 promotion exercise for FCT and Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) workers across all cadres.
The upcoming examinations are a crucial step in the career advancement of the participating civil servants. The use of CBT is designed to ensure a fair and objective assessment of their qualifications and abilities. As the FCTA continues to prioritize staff development and motivation, the successful completion of these exams will pave the way for the promotion of deserving candidates.
The FCT Minister’s support for the CBT platform and the promotion exercise reflects the administration’s focus on enhancing the skills and capabilities of its workforce. By investing in the growth and development of its employees, the FCTA aims to improve service delivery and contribute to the overall development of the Federal Capital Territory.
