Dangote Group has announced a strategic partnership with Honeywell International Inc. to accelerate the expansion of its petroleum refinery to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028, up from the current 650,000 barrels per day. This collaboration is a significant step toward establishing the world’s largest petroleum‑refining complex. Under the agreement, Honeywell will supply advanced technologies—including catalysts and equipment—that will enable the refinery to process a wider range of crude grades, improve product quality, and enhance operational reliability.
The partnership also extends to Dangote’s petrochemical operations. Using Honeywell’s Oleflex technology, Dangote plans to scale up polypropylene production to 2.4 million metric tonnes annually. In addition to the refinery expansion, the company is increasing its fertilizer output, aiming to boost urea production from 3 million to 9 million metric tonnes per year by adding four new production trains to its existing facility.
Dangote’s commitment to building world‑class industrial capacity is intended to enhance Nigeria’s energy security and drive sustainable economic growth through innovation and strategic global partnerships. The refinery’s expanded capacity will increase Nigeria’s domestic refining capability, reducing reliance on imported petroleum products.
