The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has ratified the expulsion of Kogi federal lawmaker Leke Abejide for alleged serial acts of indiscipline. The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) confirmed the decision—originally taken by the Kogi state chapter—at a meeting in Abuja. This action follows weeks of internal conflict and a formal request from the Kogi chapter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives to declare the Yagba Federal Constituency seat vacant.

In a statement, National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi reiterated the ADC’s zero‑tolerance policy on misconduct, emphasizing that the party will not tolerate any acts of indiscipline from its members as it seeks to build an organization grounded in discipline, character, and integrity. The NWC also directed the Kogi leadership to fill vacant positions at the ward, local government, and state levels in accordance with approved transition guidelines ahead of forthcoming congresses.

Earlier, the Kogi ADC wrote to the Speaker, notifying him of Abejide’s expulsion and urging the House to declare his seat vacant. The correspondence accused the two‑term lawmaker of gross misconduct and anti‑party activities, including making damaging public statements against the party on national television and other media platforms. Abejide had been suspended on 4 August and refused to appear before the Appeal Committee before his final expulsion on 28 August.

Abejide’s camp dismissed the move as a desperate ploy by individuals who no longer have legal standing in the ADC. His team argued that the petitioners behind the expulsion had themselves been expelled at the ward level, with the action subsequently ratified throughout the party structure. Supporters maintain that he was duly re‑elected, that his mandate remains intact, and that both his supporters and the law stand firmly behind him.

The development highlights ongoing internal conflicts within the ADC as the party strives to establish a strong disciplinary framework. The expulsion and its ratification by the NWC demonstrate the party’s commitment to upholding its values and principles. As the ADC moves forward, it is likely to face further challenges in maintaining unity and discipline among its members, and the outcome will be closely watched for its implications on the party’s future and its ability to represent its constituents effectively.
