Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party, has condemned Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for claiming that politicians are responsible for the recent surge in banditry across Nigeria. Eze called Kalu’s allegation “disgraceful and unsubstantiated,” saying it reflects the “sycophancy, eye service, and betrayal” common among some politicians. He questioned how anyone could reasonably assume that opposition politicians are sponsoring bandits to destabilise President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Instead, Eze urged Kalu to confront Tinubu directly about the country’s insecurity, arguing that the president needs “visionary, truthful, and proactive friends” rather than politicians who speak with double standards to curry favour. Kalu had previously asserted in an interview that the pattern of attacks suggests a political agenda rather than random criminal activity. Eze countered that the insecurity is not a calculated attempt to destabilise the administration but an indicator of President Tinubu’s failure to protect Nigerians.
Eze also addressed Adams Oshiomhole, who shares Kalu’s views, noting that the blood of innocent Nigerians slaughtered because of the administration’s inability to address insecurity has attracted global attention. He challenged both Kalu and Oshiomhole to name the sponsors of insecurity in Nigeria, stating that their failure to do so is an act of cowardice and implies they may be privy to the situation.
The criticism comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with security challenges, including kidnapping, killings, and property destruction. Although the Federal Government has expended significant funds to combat insecurity, the problem remains unresolved. Eze’s statements underscore the need for the administration to address the root causes of insecurity rather than merely apportioning blame. As the country navigates this challenging period, the government’s ability to provide effective solutions will be crucial in restoring stability and protecting Nigerian lives.
