The Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing General Christopher Musa as Minister of Defence. In a statement issued from Port Harcourt, MOSIEND president Dr. Kennedy West called the appointment a responsive move to Nigerians’ aspirations and expressed hope that General Musa’s leadership will bring a more cohesive and professional approach to the nation’s security challenges.

General Musa, the immediate‑past Chief of Defence Staff, is widely regarded for his competence, discipline and field experience. His nomination is seen as evidence of President Tinubu’s commitment to restoring peace and unity in the country. Having observed and engaged with Nigeria’s security evolution for over 33 years, MOSIEND believes that General Musa’s return to defence leadership will inject renewed strength and strategic precision into the nation’s security architecture.

The group highlighted General Musa’s deep operational understanding—from the North‑East theatre to Lake Chad operations—as positioning him as a stabilising force capable of shaping coordinated strategies for the Chief of Defence Staff and the Service Chiefs. With General Musa at the helm, MOSIEND forecasts a more disciplined and professional approach to confronting the nation’s enemies, including bandits, terrorists and other criminal elements.

MOSIEND also urged President Tinubu to complement General Musa’s appointment with expanded empowerment of the military, calling for modern equipment, improved intelligence capacity and strengthened policy frameworks, especially in light of the declared state of emergency on national security. The Niger Delta community has expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s bold and decisive moves, and MOSIEND has called on all Nigerians to rally behind the Armed Forces and support security agencies in safeguarding the nation.

The appointment of General Musa as Minister of Defence is viewed as a significant development in Nigeria’s effort to address its security challenges. As the country continues to grapple with banditry, terrorism and other criminalities, General Musa’s experience and expertise are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s security strategy, making his appointment a widely welcomed step in the right direction.
