The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology has suspended its four‑month industrial action. The decision was taken at an emergency congress meeting on Monday and was announced in a press statement released on Wednesday. The statement, signed by Interim Chairman Prof. Michael Olamoyegun and Interim Secretary Dr. Ayobami Alabi, confirmed that academic activities resumed on Tuesday, 2 December 2025.

Lecturers had been on strike since 31 July, protesting the delayed implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS). The association noted that only the basic salary component of CONMESS had been paid, while related allowances and arrears dating from January 2025 remained outstanding. The proposed implementation date, initially set for July 2026, was rejected as it came nearly 19 months after negotiations began.

During the emergency congress, members reviewed progress on the demand for full CONMESS implementation. They highlighted that the unresolved components—allowances and arrears—remain the core of their negotiations with university management. After deliberation, the congress unanimously resolved to suspend the industrial action, allowing for further constructive engagement to secure the complete CONMESS package. A framework for periodic review of progress on CONMESS implementation was also approved.

The association emphasized that any future actions, including possible escalation, will depend on the university management’s response. The resolution was made in good faith, acknowledging appeals from the public and stakeholders, and trusting that management will expedite payment of the outstanding allowances and arrears. The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics expressed appreciation to its members for their support and resilience throughout the strike, noting that their commitment upheld the dignity of the profession.

By suspending the strike, the association aims to prevent further strain on the medical program and demonstrates confidence in the ongoing efforts of the Governing Council and the Commissioner for Education in Oyo State. With academic activities now resumed, attention turns to the university management’s response to the association’s demands, which will determine the next steps in this ongoing dispute.
