The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, emphasized the importance of core values—transparency, integrity, and accountability—within the Commission’s Staff Multi‑Purpose Co‑Operative Society. Speaking at the society’s Annual General Meeting and election, he urged the leadership to manage members’ funds prudently and to conduct free and fair internal elections.
Professor Amupitan warned that corruption and mismanagement of members’ savings would not be tolerated, describing corruption as a “poison” to institutions built on trust. He reiterated that the cooperative’s primary purpose is to prioritize members’ welfare, especially during challenging economic times. Accordingly, he advised the society’s leadership to ensure deft financial management, transparent transactions, and accountable decision‑making, stressing that all funds belong to the members and the executive committee acts only as a trustee.
Reaffirming his commitment to staff welfare, the INEC chairman called on the cooperative to guarantee equal access to loans and benefits for every member, regardless of position or connection.
