The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Accord Party has taken several decisive steps ahead of the upcoming Osun State governorship election. In a recent meeting, the council approved the formation of a Caretaker Committee for the Osun State Chapter, appointing Pastor Victor Akande as chairman after the previous leadership’s tenure expired. To prepare for the gubernatorial primaries, the NEC also adopted Electoral Guidelines that detail the rules and procedures for the election, and it constituted an Electoral Committee to oversee the 2026 Osun State governorship primaries, expressing confidence in the party’s ability to win.
In an effort to broaden its ranks, the party granted a general waiver to numerous Nigerians who have recently joined and wish to contest elections on its platform, a move expected to boost its chances in the upcoming vote. Additionally, the NEC approved the establishment of Women and Youth Directorates at national, zonal, state, local government, ward, and polling‑unit levels, aiming to enhance membership drives and grassroots mobilization across the country.
The party also lifted the suspension of several members in Osun State as it prepares for the gubernatorial contest, and it passed a vote of confidence in Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem’s leadership as National Chairman, underscoring its commitment to stability and cohesion. These developments position the Accord Party to make a strong showing in what is anticipated to be a highly contested governorship election in Osun State.
