Renowned Nigerian musician Wasiu Ayinde, also known as Kwam1 or K1 De Ultimate, has expressed interest in the Awujale throne. In a letter dated December 3, 2025, addressed to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, the singer formally declared his intention to be considered for the vacant stool. This development follows the death of the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who passed away in July 2025 at the age of 91 after a 64‑year reign.
Kwam1, now 68, cites his royal lineage from the Jadiara line of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Agunsebi Quarters as the basis for his eligibility. He also highlights his 50 years of cultural advocacy through music as a key factor in his decision. According to his proposal, his intention aligns with the provisions of the Ogun State chieftaincy laws and Ijebu customary law. In his letter, Kwam1 stated, “I, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adewale Olasunkanmi Omogbolahan Anifowoshe, MON, formally notify the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of my intention to be considered for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland.”
The Awujale throne holds significant cultural and traditional importance in Ijebuland, and the selection process is expected to be rigorous. The Fusengbuwa Ruling House will review Kwam1’s application, considering his lineage, cultural contributions, and adherence to traditional laws. The Ogun State government may also play a role, ensuring that the new Awujale meets the requirements outlined in the state’s chieftaincy laws.
As the process unfolds, the people of Ijebuland and Nigeria at large will watch with interest. The new Awujale will be expected to promote the cultural heritage and traditions of Ijebuland while addressing the community’s challenges. With his extensive experience in cultural advocacy and deep understanding of traditional laws, Kwam1’s candidacy is likely to be closely scrutinized. The outcome of the selection process will have significant implications for the future of Ijebuland and its people.
