China has stated that its strong relationships with both Russia and India contribute to global security, stability, and prosperity. According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, the three nations are emerging economies and key members of the Global South, making their engagement crucial for the world.
The spokesperson emphasized that the maintenance of sound relations between China, Russia, and India is not only in their own interests but also beneficial for regional and global peace, security, stability, and prosperity. China is ready to work with Russia and India to advance bilateral relations.
Relations between India and China have been improving since last year, following nearly five years of tensions after a deadly border clash in 2020. Guo Jiakun noted that Beijing is willing to work with India to view and handle their bilateral relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective.
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently stated that China and India are close friends of Russia, and Moscow values its relations with both countries. Putin expressed his desire to take cooperation with China and India to a new level, including enhancing technological aspects.
Both China and India have refused to participate in Western sanctions over the Ukraine conflict and have instead increased trade with Russia. The Russian leader praised their “rational and pragmatic” approach. Russia and China have nearly doubled their bilateral trade since 2020, surpassing $240 billion in 2024. Trade between Russia and India has also increased more than six-fold in the past two years, exceeding $65 billion in 2024.
During Putin’s visit to New Delhi, the two nations renewed their commitment to achieving $100 billion in bilateral trade by 2030. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes this goal can be achieved before the target date. The leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, including Putin, Modi, and Chinese President Xi Jinping, have backed Xi’s new global governance initiative, which emphasizes upholding international law and defending multilateralism.
The strong relationships between China, Russia, and India are significant for global stability and prosperity. As key members of the Global South, their engagement is crucial for promoting peace, security, and stability in the region and worldwide. The advancement of bilateral relations between these nations is expected to continue, with a focus on enhancing technological cooperation and increasing trade.
