Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Iyiola Omisore, expressed disappointment over his disqualification from the Osun APC primary election, calling the decision a joke and an embarrassment. In an interview with Arise Television, Omisore noted that the party’s action is constrained by the Electoral Act, which states that the nomination of a candidate is not solely a party prerogative.
The APC Screening Committee disqualified Omisore and six other aspirants—Babatunde Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Senator Babajide Omoworare—citing alleged irregularities in their nomination documents. This move follows the party’s loss in the 2022 Osun State election. A post‑mortem analysis, led by former Minister of Health Isaac Adewale, reportedly identified actions by then‑governor Gboyega Oyetola as a contributing factor and implicated some of Oyetola’s cabinet members in the defeat.
Omisore claimed that the state leadership opposes Oyetola’s current stance, which he sees as an attempt to impose a candidate on the state. He suggested that the disqualification of himself and the other aspirants may be linked to Oyetola’s sponsorship of one of the individuals implicated in the 2022 loss. Omisore emphasized that he does not wish to involve President Bola Tinubu, asserting that the President has been fair to all parties and has performed well for the country.
The disqualification of Omisore and the other aspirants carries significant implications for the upcoming 2026 election. The party’s decision could be perceived as an effort to control the nomination process, potentially sparking further internal conflicts.
