The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its readiness to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. Party chairman Abayomi Tella said the PDP is fully prepared to defeat the APC after receiving the national chairman, Kabiru Turaki, in Abeokuta, the state capital. Turaki’s visit was part of a nationwide tour following his election as the party’s national chairman at the convention in Ibadan, and he also met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo during the trip.
Tella welcomed Turaki’s presence, noting that it has rekindled hopes within the party and marked a new beginning. He warned that the PDP would not tolerate any form of harassment or intimidation in the 2027 elections, citing recent incidents in the state. Emphasizing that the upcoming vote will be a contest between the people and political parties, Tella expressed confidence that, with residents’ support, the PDP will emerge victorious.
The chairman reflected on lessons learned from past experiences, including the 2023 general elections and the Remo Federal Constituency by‑election in August. He assured that the PDP would prevent a repeat of those incidents in 2027, stressing citizens’ right to vote and be voted for. Party leaders are optimistic about their chances, citing popular support as a crucial factor.
Turaki’s visit has boosted the morale of PDP members in Ogun State, and the party is gearing up for a strong challenge to the APC in 2027. As the political landscape in the state evolves, the PDP’s determination to unseat the ruling party is expected to be a significant factor in the upcoming elections, promising a closely contested race.
