Ekiti Pledges Affordable Health Services for All Residents

The Ekiti State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening healthcare systems and delivering quality outcomes for residents. Commissioner for Health Dr. Oyebanji Filani said this commitment will translate into sustained, accessible, and high‑quality care at all public health facilities in the state. The government has been proactive in meeting residents’ health needs through various policies, programs, and the provision of necessary infrastructure and equipment.

Filani, represented by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health Mrs. Olusola Gbenga‑Igotun, made these statements during the Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) Project Transition event. The event marked the completion of Solina Health’s implementation contract in Ekiti State. The IMPACT project, a World Bank‑supported initiative, aims to reduce the malaria burden by strengthening service delivery, improving access to quality diagnosis and treatment, and enhancing community engagement. Solina Health, in collaboration with the state, implemented the malaria component of the project.

According to Daniel Abraham, Solina Health’s Director for the IMPACT Project, the organization has fulfilled its assignment and exited upon contract completion, but remains committed to partnering with Ekiti State and other stakeholders moving forward. Notable achievements of the project include support for 203 health facilities, testing 958,022 individuals for malaria, saving 182,281 children under five through timely intervention, and protecting 92,853 pregnant women with preventive therapy. The initiative also improved antenatal‑care attendance and increased facility‑based deliveries in targeted communities.

State Malaria Elimination Programme Manager Dr. Folu Ekundare assured the sustainability of these gains, noting that the state implementation team worked closely with Solina Health over the past two years. Nigeria still bears one of the highest malaria burdens globally, making sustained efforts essential. The Ekiti State Government’s dedication to strengthening healthcare systems is crucial for reducing this burden, and the success of the IMPACT project highlights the importance of collaborative efforts among government agencies, healthcare organisations, and stakeholders in achieving significant progress in malaria control and overall healthcare delivery.
