Terrorism allegation against Iwo town is false says Oluwo

Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwoland, has dismissed allegations that a terrorist group operates in the town, calling the claims false and unfounded. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, the monarch said the reports are the work of enemies seeking to undermine Iwo’s security structure and religious harmony. The statement was prompted by the reported invitation and arrest of Sheikh Dahood Imran Molaasan, leader of Jama’atu Ta’awunil Muslimeen, by the Department of State Services (DSS) on terrorism charges.

Oba Akanbi emphasized that Iwo remains one of the most peaceful towns in Nigeria, with a long‑standing reputation for peace and safety. He defended Jama’atu Ta’awunil Muslimeen, describing it as a reputable organization that contributes to national security and academic development. The group runs more than 40 schools, including a private College of Education and orphanage homes, and has existed for over two decades. Its security arm has played a significant role in maintaining law and order in Iwoland, helping to sustain peace across the town and its environs.

The monarch noted that the group’s achievements in education and security informed his decision to honor Sheikh Dahood Imran Molaasan with the title of Grand Mufti of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta. He warned that individuals spreading false information are tantamount to “social media terrorists and bandits” and threatened legal action against those involved. Oba Akanbi also highlighted the critical role of the Jaysu Security Network in maintaining law and order in Iwo; the network works directly with the Nigerian Police Force and has assisted in the arrest of hardened criminals.

To protect the town’s peaceful reputation, the Oluwo has initiated measures to arrest individuals peddling rumors that discredit Iwo. While the terrorism allegations have raised concern, the monarch’s statement seeks to reassure the public of the town’s commitment to peace and security.
