A tragic motor accident in Gombe State, Nigeria, has claimed the lives of seven people from the Lawanti community in Akko Local Government Area. The victims were traveling to Maiduguri, Borno State, to attend a wedding ceremony when the incident occurred.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya expressed deep sadness over the accident, describing it as a painful and devastating loss for the affected families, the Lawanti community, and the state as a whole. In a statement, the Governor’s Director‑General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, noted that the untimely death of the victims has deeply affected everyone and that no words can adequately console the families who have lost loved ones.
Among the deceased were relatives of prominent community members, such as the District Head of Jalingo, Bello Hassan Babangida, who lost his sister and niece, and Idris Lawanti Maigari, who lost his daughter. The Governor commiserated with the families, offering his condolences and prayers for the bereaved. He prayed that Almighty Allah grant the families, relatives, and the Lawanti community strength and patience to bear the immense loss, and that the deceased be forgiven and granted Aljannatul Firdaus, the highest level of paradise.

While the Gombe State government has not announced any specific investigation, the incident is likely to be reviewed to determine its cause and to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
