Nigeria’s oil output drops 5.9% to 1.599m bpd

Nigeria’s oil production fell 5.9% year‑on‑year, dropping to 1.599 million barrels per day (bpd) in November 2025 from 1.698 million bpd in the same month of 2024, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). The commission’s December 2025 Crude Oil and Condensate Production report also shows a month‑on‑month decline, with output decreasing from 1.698 million bpd in October 2025 to 1.599 million bpd in November 2025.

In November, combined crude oil and condensate production ranged between a low of 1.54 million barrels per day (bopd) and a high of 1.79 million bopd. The average crude oil output for the month was 96 % of the OPEC quota of 1.5 million bpd. Daily averages comprised 1,436,005 bpd of crude oil and 163,049 bpd of condensate, totaling 1,599,054 bpd.

The decline is significant for the global energy market, given Nigeria’s status as a major oil producer, and it could affect the country’s economy, which relies heavily on oil exports. The NUPRC report highlights operational challenges, maintenance activities, and security issues as possible contributors to the reduced output. Consequently, the Nigerian government and industry stakeholders may need to reassess their strategies to address these challenges and optimize production.

As the global energy landscape evolves, Nigeria’s oil production trends will continue to be closely monitored by industry experts and investors.
